Ayurvedic Treatments or Ayurveda is one of the World’s Oldest Holistic (Whole Body) Healing Systems. It has its base originated to approx. 5000 years back in India. It’s based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. Its main goal is to promote good health, not fight disease. But treatments may be geared toward specific health problems.

Ayurveda believe every person is made of five basic elements found in the universe: space, air, fire, water, and earth. These combine in the human body to form three life forces or energies, called doshas. They control how your body works. They are Vata dosha (space and air); Pitta dosha (fire and water); and Kapha dosha (water and earth). Each one controls a different body function. It’s believed that your chances of getting sick — and the health issues you develop — are linked to the balance of your doshas.

Shirodhara:

The word shirodhara originates from two Sanskrit words, shiro (head) and dhara (flow). It is a form of treatment in which warm, herbalized Ayurvedic oil is poured onto your forehead. Initially, the oil is streamed in dosha-specific patterns from the right to left temple. After several minutes, the stream is set to the middle of the forehead where it flows continuously for the duration of the treatment. Benefits include Stress Relief, Anxiety Reduction, Relieving from Hyper Tensions and Headache, awakens intuition & Improves Sleep Quality.

Abhyangam:

Abhyangam is one of the most important practices to maintain a healthy body and mind. The meaning of ‘Abhyanga,’ is friction based application of oil to the body. It is the process of oleation, smearing medicated oils all over the body followed by gentle massaging of the whole body.

The herbal oil used for this purpose is decided by the Ayurvedic physician on basis of the patient’s Dosha Prakriti. The systematic massage with Ayurvedic herbal oils help squeeze out toxic accumulation from the channels. Abhyangam treatment addresses imbalances within the body and works to bring a person’s Dosha back into its original state.

The massage along with steam bath produces great results. The effects are compounded since the heat and steam allow the medicated oils to seep into the body and nourish them from the inside.

Udwarthanam:

Udwarthanam is a unique and very stimulating exfoliating therapy that uses specially prepared herbal powder. This powder is rubbed all over the body to slough off dead skin cells and help reduce subcutaneous fat.

It is performed both dry and wet. This massage stimulates hair follicles and subcutaneous fat tissue to break down subcutaneous fat storage. The dry powder massage reduces blood cholesterol, obesity, and skin problems. In addition, it imparts mobility to the joints, strengthens muscles and refreshes the body. The most promising effect is the slimming of the body.

Panchakarma:

This is the essence of Ayurvedic treatment. Promising results can be seen even in incurable diseases. Through a series of systematic treatment regimens, body is purified and normal rhythm of life is regained. Each module is planned to work on the whole body. Emesis, Oil enema, Medicinal enema and nasal sinus cleansing are the fivefold procedures known as Panchakarma.

The ideal program for each patient is arrived at, after an in-depth study on the patient’s physical health and medical history. They will then receive an individualized module consisting of therapeutic massage, dietary counselling and body detoxification or rejuvenating treatment. The average modules are between 7 to 28 days.

All therapies are conducted by experienced masseurs or masseuses under the supervision of professional Ayurvedic physicians.

Elakizhi:

It is a highly rejuvenating treatment in which herbs are used. Fresh leaves of anti Vata plants, such as Eranda (Ricinus communis), Arka (Calotropis Procera), Nirgundi (Vitex negundo), Rasna (Pluchea lanceolata), Coconut leaves, lemon and curcumin are fried with herbal ingredients and tied into cloth boluses (Potlis). These are dipped into warm medicated oil and used for massaging the body. The treatment begins with the application of suitable medicated oil to the entire body. The massage with heated boluses induces profuse sudation, which helps in the fomentation process.

Elakizhi is effective for various kinds of arthritis, spondylitis, back pain, sports injuries and for all other soft tissue inflammations especially joint pains.The massage promotes better circulation within the affected area, induces perspiration which helps the skin to eliminate wastes. It also helps to tone the skin and can be very relaxing.

Njavarakizhi:

Njavarakizhi therapy involves a generous amount of medicated oil being applied to the whole body. The body is then massaged with small cotton cloth boluses (Potlis) filled with cooked Njavara rice. The boluses are dipped in this regenerating mixture of cow’s milk and a brewed herbal decoction, and then applied all over the body to induce sweat. Njavara is an indigenous variety of rice grown in Kerala, having medicinal properties.

Kati Vasti:

Kati vasti involves specially prepared warm herbal oil being poured over the lower back and retained inside the black gram paste boundary for the required duration.

The healing properties of herbal oils used for Kati vasti deeply cleans and enriches the blood, builds and maintains strong muscle and connective tissues and lubricates the joints keeping them flexible and pain free. This therapy alleviates lower back conditions like lumbar spondylitis, inter vertebral disc prolapses, lumbago (low back ache), and sciatica.
